Policy Documents on Volunteering
Volunteering involves political, cultural and philosophical aspects, all of which are worthy of discussion for the ways in which volunteering interacts with other aspects of society. Much of this discussion is about how government and other institutions can work cooperatively to foster volunteering; some discussion is about how volunteer institutions need to work responsibly to ensure that volunteering occurs in an ethical and productive manner. One example of this is the "Volunteering Vision 2001" document about which you will find discussion in our International Roundtable this issue. Also, Susan and I discuss the whole topic of "rational" government policies in this issue's Points of View section.
The Web listings in this article include other readily accessible documents produced during dialogues around these areas.
