Revisited: Volunteering in Arts, Heritage and Cultural Institutions

Arts, heritage and cultural institutions have always been one of the bulwarks of volunteer involvement, engaging large numbers of volunteers in a very wide range of institutions. One of the more fascinating aspects of volunteering in these institutions is that some programs are entirely volunteer-driven (with absolutely no paid staff) while some institutions are staff dominated. Another intriguing aspect, with ramifications for the entire volunteering sector, is that many programs have extensive populations of aging volunteers; they are simultaneously attempting to deal with some of the problems created by a mass of seniors while recruiting their younger replacements. In this Along the Web, we revisit and update our first look at this sector of volunteering, a visit that took place over six years ago.
